A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children’s book series,written by Daniel Handler under the pseudonym of Lemony Snicket. The first book in the series, The Bad Beginning, was published in 1999 and the thirteenth and final book, The End, was released in October 13, 2006. The film version, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events released in December 2004 featured Jim Carey as Count Olaf, was based on the first three books.
The series follows the seemingly unlucky lives of the three Baudelaire siblings ? Violet, Klaus and Sunny. In the first book, ?The Bad Beginning?, the unfortunate events in the lives of the three started with the sudden death of their parents in a fire at their family home. And so goes on their story. They were sent to live with their supposed third cousin Count Olaf ? a a most unpleasant, scheming evil man. In hope of stealing their fortune, Count Olaf made several attempts to deceive the siblings. The orphans, being naturally gifted and intelligent, use their distinctive individual skills to defend each other from the evil handsd of Count Olaf. Violet is an inventor, Klaus is a researcher, and Sunny is a biter with four sharp teeth. Later into the series, Sunny begins to speak sophisticated words and phrases. Sunny later on grew teeth as her primary skill and cooking as among her abilities. The fictional author is likewise a character in the story, with cameo role as he follows the three Baudelaires, but the children never meet him.
About the Author
Daniel Handler was born on February 28, 1970 in a San Francisco-based Jewish American family. He is best known for his work under his pen name, Lemony Snicket. Handler is a native San Franciscan. He is an alumnus of the San Francisco Boys Chorus, and graduate of Lowell High School. Handler graduated from Wesleyan University in 1992. Handler is married to Lisa Brown, who is a graphic artist he met at the University, and he lives in an old Victorian house in San Francisco.
